Advanced Controls using the mapguide plugin
ActiveX map plugin
The website starts by running checks to see if your PC has used it before.
For first time users, this means a one-off delay ranging from a few seconds to nine minutes,
depending on the speed of your connection. After this time you will be offered the chance to download a 'plug-in'.
This takes just a few further seconds.
This plug-in is essential - it is the special software which allows Internet Explorer
to handle the map graphics. With it in place, a map will appear in the middle of your screen and you are ready to begin.
You will never need to repeat this process on the same computer,
but the plug-in will be required on any computer you use for this website.
The downloading of plug-in software is blocked on some systems -
eg. in some workplaces or on public access machines.
If you are unable to download the plug-in, please check with your system administrator who should be able to help.
The map plug-in will only work with Internet Explorer 4 and the latest version of Netscape.
Map Layer Controls
the layer contol panel allows you to re-order the layers on the map. Useful if you want to overlay
boundaries over a thematic map, for example
1) Click the "Get map layers from map" link, to populate the box with available layers
2) Highlight a layer in the box, and when its selected
3) Click the up or down arrows to the left of the box to re-order it. The order now should be changed in the box. Repeat as necessary with other layers
4) click the "Refresh" button on the right of the box. and click ok to the message. This should then re-order the map according to the order in the box.
